About The Lactation Foundation

Black woman breastfeeding at lactation training facility

Welcome to the Lactation Foundation

The Lactation Foundation opened in October 2010. It is a joint effort between the State of Texas WIC Program and the UTHealth McGovern Medical School Department of Pediatrics. The Lactation Foundation is a professional lactation management and training facility serving the greater Houston area.

Who We Serve

The mission of the Lactation Foundation is:

  1. To promote the health and well-being of Texas parents and children
  2. To enable mothers to reach their breastfeeding goals by providing personalized breastfeeding assistance
  3. To educate and train health care providers in skills needed to care for breastfeeding families
  4. To establish collaborative partnerships that seek to advance health on a community level

The Lactation Foundation offers personalized, private consultations with board-certified lactation consultants. Our caring professionals can help you meet your breastfeeding goals.

We receive grant funding from state agencies and can provide services to many families at no cost.

We have sister facilities in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and McAllen.  For information on those facilities, please visit the main lactation support center website.

Lactation Training Opportunities

In addition to patient-centered lactation support, we also provide training in lactation management to medical residents, nurses, dietitians, WIC staff, and community health professionals.

Additionally, if you are interested in becoming a lactation consultant (IBCLC), please visit the IBLCE website for more information.
