A recent article in Bloomberg Law, “Affirmative Action Ban Looms as Biomedicine Strives to Diversify,” discusses how ending affirmative action policies would affect gains in biomedicine. Keisha Ray, PhD, shared that researchers bring different perspectives and encourage other researchers to pursue science and engage with diverse communities. The article notes that, before affirmative action policies, underrepresented medical students accounted for a small fraction of those enrolled in US public medical schools. Thus, the consequences of eliminating these policies could be drastic in medicine.
