Congratulations to Jessica Wise, MPH; Angela Gomez, EdD, MBA, MS; and Stephen Linder, PhD!

Led by Wise, the team received 2nd place for their poster, “A Campus-Wide ‘Civics 101’ Learning Module for Diverse Disciplines in the Health Science,” at the 2023 Innovation in Health Science Education Conference, organized by the UT System Shine Academy. Accompanied by a detailed audio recording, the poster shared about the Civics 101 Module, highlighting adult learning principles used in developing the educational activity and assessment results from the Fall 2022 implementation of the campus-wide activity. Civics 101 is a key activity of UTHealth Houston’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Healthcare Policy for Health Professionals, and is aimed at enhancing students’ knowledge of the basic concepts of American government, defining policy, and introducing the policy process.

Wise is the graduate research assistant for the QEP and a PhD candidate at the School of Public Health, Gomez is the co-director of the QEP and senior coordinator of special programs with the McGovern Center, and Linder is a member of the QEP leadership team, representing the School of Public Health, where he is professor of management, policy and community health, and director of the Institute for Health Policy.
