The McGovern Center for Humanities & Ethics and Baylor College of Medicine are pleased to present “Music and Medicine: A Live Performance with Adam J. Ivey” as part of the Arts & Resilience Lecture Series. This event features Adam J. Ivey, a classically trained pianist, composer, and arranger known for seamlessly blending classical, jazz, blues, gospel, and contemporary styles.
Originally from Oakland, Ivey discovered his musical voice early while listening to his grandmother’s piano lessons—a formative moment that sparked a lifelong connection to the instrument. His unique versatility across structured performance and improvisation has shaped a wide-ranging career spanning concert stages, studio work, and composition. During the pandemic, Ivey released his first full jazz project, Just Jazz, which has since gained international recognition through global streaming and radio play.
Now based in Houston, Ivey is an active contributor to the city’s music scene, performing regularly at the Lyric Market jazz series and appearing on Houston Public Media, where he has shared his story of resilience and artistic evolution. His performances highlight both his technical depth and his emotional connection to the piano, showcasing original compositions and genre-spanning improvisation.
This event invites attendees to experience Ivey’s dynamic artistry while exploring the intersection of music, healing, and human resilience.

The performance is on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Noon in McGovern Medical School’s 5th Floor Gallery, and will be streamed live via Zoom.
