Extracurricular Electives
The McGovern Center sponsors many extracurricular, or blue book, electives each semester. These electives are designed to supplement and enrich the medical school’s curriculum, exposing students to a range of topics related to the humanities and ethics. Some of our electives are faculty-led; however, a growing number of these courses are designed by medical students who have identified topics of interest or gaps that can be addressed through the medical humanities. All of the electives listed are open to students of McGovern Medical School; however, a select few involve students of other schools, such as UTHealth Houston’s School of Dentistry, Cizik School of Nursing, and Baylor College of Medicine.
Please note: To gain access to course details and schedules, UTH login credentials are required.
General questions about the McGovern Center’s blue book electives may be directed to Angela Gomez, EdD, MBA, MS.
Please contact the Office of Educational Programs for questions about proposing new or renewing existing blue books. This office maintains the online system containing all available electives at McGovern Medical School and handles the proposals for new or returning series.
