Book Money
The Pediatrics department provides Med-Peds residents with $65.00 per year to use towards purchasing medicine or pediatric textbooks. PREP and NEJM + question banks are provided annually free of charge in preparation for boards. Internal medicine does not provide a book fund. However, they furnish MKSAP online which includes questions and answers in preparation for boards.
Vacations
Vacation time must be shared equally within both departments for all PGY levels. Three (3) weeks of vacation are provided as seven (7) day blocks which can be taken on either medicine or pediatrics respectively. Our chief residents work hard to ensure that residents are able to create a schedule which allows them to attend to important life events outside of the hospital.
Sick Leave
Paid sick leave accumulates at a rate of one day each month and accumulates to a maximum of thirty days. Sick leave carries forward year to year but is not compensated upon termination. In the event an illness exceeds accumulated paid sick leave and vacation time, a leave of absence without pay may be granted.
Educational Leave
Each resident is entitled to 5 working days per contract year to attend an educational meeting.
