Data and Sample Sharing

Data Sharing

All data generated in this project will be made fully available to the scientific community through the regular channels, including publication of the results and presentations in open-access national and international meetings. Primary data will be deposited to a server for free access, as described below. In case is necessary, consortium members will open their labs to train people in the technologies generated and specific protocols. Should any intellectual property arise which requires to file a patent, we will ensure that the technology (materials and data) remains widely available to the research community in accordance with the NIH Principles and Guidelines document.

Sample Sharing

This project involves the active sharing of well-characterized polymorphic variant of αSyn aggregates generated and characterized in our studies. Materials will be made freely available to scientific researchers in a centralized manner following the NIH guidelines. Materials will be distributed with a detailed documentation of all the biochemical, biophysical, structural and biological studies performed and the results obtained.
With respect to patient biological samples, when possible, that is when samples are not restricted by prior Material Transfer Agreements with other institutions, we will make every effort to satisfy requests for these materials. Investigators will be required to supply appropriate and current shipping permits. All requests for plasmid constructs will be satisfied, and DNA will be generally shipped dry on sterile 3MM paper.
Standardize detailed protocols will be generated and distributed through the U24 web page.

Procedures for Sample Request and Distribution

Samples of alpha-synuclein aggregates generated by seeding from brain and/or CSF from patients affected by various synucleinopathies (Dementia with Lewy bodies, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple system atrophy and Alzheimer’s disease) will be provided free of charge to scientists that request them. The following steps should be followed to obtain samples:

1. Fill the Sample Request Form, found in this web page and email it to [email protected]
2. Request will be reviewed by the U24 consortium members and if approved, we will send a simple Material Transfer Agreement form to be signed by the recipient’s Institution.
3. Recipient should provide any appropriate permit (if required).
4. When samples are ready to ship, the recipient should provide a FedEx account to charge for the shipping costs.
5. Materials will be shipped in dry ice with all documentation available.
6. Recipient should acknowledge in publications/presentations the source of materials used, utilizing the following statement: “Samples of SAA amplified α-synuclein aggregates were provided by Dr. Claudio Soto (UTHealth McGovern Medical School), as part of the U24 Project entitled “Production and Distribution of well-characterized polymorphic variants of alpha-synuclein aggregates” (U24 AG079685)”.
