2017 Lone Star Rhinology Course Recap
More than 80 physicians participated in Lone Star Rhinology 2017, an intensive two-day CME program dedicated to the study of issues in nasal and sinus disorders.
Guests of honor at 2017 Lone Star Rhinology were Pete S. Batra, MD (Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, IL) and Ralph Metson, MD (Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA). “We were delighted to have such distinguished guests of honor for 2017 LSR. Dr. Batra and Dr. Metson are great surgeons and teachers,” said Martin J. Citardi, MD, professor and chair of otorhinolaryngology at McGovern Medical School (part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston).
“The success of this meeting requires dedicated teaching faculty. Our course faculty included practicing rhinologists from across the entire country,” observed Amber U. Luong, MD, PhD, associate professor of otorhinolaryngology at McGovern Medical School. Visiting faculty included Mohamad Chaaban, MD (The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston), Philip Chen, MD (The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio), Seth Isaacs, MD, (TriHealth, Cincinnati, OH); Kent Lam, MD (Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia), Li-Xing Man, MD (University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, New York), Michael Marino, MD (Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, AZ), and Drew Plonk, MD (Wake Forest Baptist Health, Winston-Salem, N.C). Alok Saini, MD from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth was also part of the teaching faculty.
Course participants included both practicing physicians and otorhinolaryngology residents. “Residents from across Texas participated in both the lecture and the dissection lab sessions—a great opportunity for them to advance their training by immersing themselves in rhinology for two days,” William C. Yao, MD, assistant professor of otorhinolaryngology at McGovern Medical School, noted.
Drs. Citardi, Luong and Yao served as course directors for 2017 LSR. The planning committee included Bradley Marple, MD, Ashleigh Halderman, MD, and Matt Ryan, MD, all faculty members at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Watch for the agenda and faculty for our 2019 Lone Star Rhinology course, to be announced later this year.
