UTHealth Psychotherapy Track

The UTHealth Psychotherapy Track, in collaboration with Ethos Wellness, is a clinical track for PGY2 and PGY3 residents consisting of:

  1. Protected time to provide individual therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) group intensive outpatient therapy (IOP) for patients with diverse clinical problems.
  2. Mentorship from expert multidisciplinary therapists and clinician educators. The track helps identify appropriate patients, provide group and 1:1 supervision of cases, and ongoing mentorship. With informed consent from the patient, supervision may also include analyzing audio and video recordings of therapeutic sessions.
  3. Lectures on subjects including but not limited to the history, theory, practice, technique, ethics, interpretation of psychotherapy as well as opportunities to attend other educational seminar series given at Ethos Wellness.

Schedule

Psychotherapy track training starts with providing psychodynamic individual therapy in the PGY2 year and then continues into co-facilitating group DBT IOP in the PGY3 year. Residents also have the option to continue seeing their individual therapy patients from the previous year. What makes our psychotherapy track unique is the protected time starting in PGY2 year, which allows for both short and long-term therapeutic alliances to develop.
