MBID Research Retreat

Registration is open for the 2023 Molecular Basis of Infectious Disease (MBID) Research Retreat. The annual event will be held March 2 at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine (1825 Pressler Street).

The retreat, which began in 2008, aims to foster communication and collaboration among molecular pathogenesis researchers in Texas. With an average attendance of 150 scientists, the retreat serves the MBID faculty and students, as well as investigators, in the Greater Houston area, including: UTHealth Houston; University of Houston; Baylor College of Medicine; Texas A&M; UTMB; Houston Methodist Research Institute; University of Houston – Downtown; and Houston Community College.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a Career Development Workshop, featuring graduates of participating institutions and keynote speakers who are locally and nationally recognized experts in infectious diseases. Keynote speakers for the 2023 MBID Research Retreat include Yizhi Jane Tao, PhD, professor of BioSciences at Rice University; and David B. Corry, MD, professor of Medicine-Immunology, Allergy, and Rheumatology at Baylor College of Medicine.

The event also features oral and poster presentations selected from submitted abstracts. Awards will be given for exceptional graduate student and postdoctoral fellow presentations. Selected abstracts will be made available to registrants prior to the retreat so they can select the posters they would most like to visit “in person” during the event’s poster session.

Registration for the MBID Retreat is free and open through Feb. 27. For more information, contact Carolyn Agurcia-Parker or Justin Mayberry.
