Bhandari wins John P. McGovern Award

Dr. Karthik Bhandari - John P. McGovern Award Winner

Karthik Bhandari, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, is the 2023 recipient of the John P. McGovern Award as the exceptional clinical teacher.

The John P. McGovern Award is given annually to the outstanding clinical faculty member as chosen by the senior class. The award is made possible by an endowment from the McGovern Foundation.

Bhandari serves as the associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency program and serves as faculty at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bhandari was selected as the chief medical resident for the Internal Medicine program and helped navigate the program through its COVID response.

Bhandari earned his medical degree from McGovern Medical School and remained at UTHealth Houston to complete his residency in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics. Bhandari is a member of the AOA Honor Society and was a recipient of the Hitoshi C. Nikaidoh Award for Humanism in Medicine.
