Each year, UTHealth Houston celebrates the leadership and longevity of employees by recognizing their milestone years of service to the university. UTHealth Houston’s employees are its greatest asset, and their commitment and dedication to the university is remarkable.

The university is honoring more than 1,000 STARs, including faculty and staff who are celebrating five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55 years of service. Take a moment to view the list of 2023 STAR awardees and congratulate your colleagues.

McGovern Medical School has four faculty and staff who have reached the 40, 45, and 50-year plateau. Philip Orlander, MD, professor and Edward Randall Chair in the Department of Internal Medicine and associate dean for Educational Programs, and Neal Waxham, PhD, professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy; and William M. Wheless, III Professor in Biomedical Sciences, each have been at the Medical School for 40 years, while Francisco Fuentes, MD, T.R. & M.O. Levy Endowed Professor in Cardiology, reached the 45-year milestone. Karim Marani, director of the Learning Resource Center, celebrated the half-century mark with 50 years at the Medical School.

The awardees with five to 15 years of service will be mailed a gift and are invited to a celebration of their service on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Awardees celebrating 20 to 55 years of service are invited to a celebration of their service on Thursday, Feb. 29. Awardees with 20 and 25 years of service will be able to pick up their gifts at this event. Awardees with 30 to 55 years of service will be emailed a link to a platform where they can choose their gift.
