Dr. John Scott will present the Dean's Lecture
John Scott, PhD

The McGovern Medical School Office of Research Affairs welcomes John Scott, PhD, Edwin G. Krebs-Speights Professor of Cell Signaling and Cancer Biology Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Washington for the next installment of the Dean’s Lecture, April 16.

Scott will present his lecture, “Exploring and exploiting the spatial constraints of protein kinase signaling,” from 4-5 p.m., in MSB 3.001.

Scott’s research focuses on drug discovery of precision medicine, intracellular signaling, and the molecular basis of disease. His lab has the goal of charting the intracellular signaling landscape, specifically showing that local signaling via A-kinase Anchoring proteins (AKAPs) is key to homeostatic mechanisms that go awry in disease states, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancers.

In 2024, Scott was honored with the ASPET Julius Axelrod Award in Pharmacology, and he has also won the ASPET John J. Abel Award in Pharmacology, the Oppenheimer Award of the Endocrine Society; the Rose Award from the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Ariens prize of the Dutch Pharmacological Society. He is a fellow of the Royal Society (London), and the Royal Society of Edinburgh and is a foreign member of the Norwegian Academies of Science and Letters.

The Dean’s Lecture Series at McGovern Medical School was established in 1983 to promote and encourage professional development and spark collaborative interest. Sponsored by the Research Committee, each year, eminent scientists across various scientific disciplines are invited to present their work. Lecture topics range from basic science research to patient care topics.
