Microsoft Copilot is the accepted AI at UTHealth HoustonIn an effort to maintain the strongest measures of safety within the university’s online work environment, the IT Department recommends students, faculty, trainees, and staff use UTHealth Houston’s approved AI chat solution, Microsoft Copilot.

Copilot offers capabilities similar to other AI tools, such as Chat GPT, but in a secure environment that protects commercial data and campus information. To access the free version of Copilot, navigate to the Microsoft Copilot homepage and log in with UTHealth Houston credentials.

“Rather than utilizing AI tools such as Chat GPT that place university data at risk, we are asking the university community to use the secure resource — Microsoft Copilot — instead,” said Dustan Brennan, director of IT user experience and support for innovation projects and research.

UTHealth Houston has established AI guidelines and best practices. There are also Copilot training videos available for quick tips on how to use the program.

Copilot generates custom answers using current web data. Users can ask follow-up questions, and every response is accompanied by sources so the user knows exactly where the information came from.

Microsoft Copilot is available to the UTHealth Houston community at no cost through the Copilot website. Community members who want to use an enhanced version that integrates with Microsoft Office applications, can purchase a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license. The program is $360 per individual user per year.
