Medical Insurance – 100% premiums for full time employees are paid by the University with competitive rates for family coverage

Life Insurance and AD&D – a $40,000 policy for employee at no cost.

Optional Coverage – UTHealth provides competitive rates for dental, vision, additional voluntary life, dependent life and disability coverage.

UT Flex – UTHealth employees have the option to pay for eligible medical and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Retirement Plans – All benefit eligible employees are automatically enrolled as of date of hire in TRS. TRS is a traditional defined contribution plan covering all higher education employees. 

Also included in your benefits are voluntary retirement plans, longevity pay, Employee Assistance Programs,  holiday pay and use of the recreation facility.

Vacation and Sick Leave

Vacation: 3 weeks, 15 business days and 6 weekend days for 21 days total.

Sick Leave: 12 working days per contract year with a rollover cap of 30 working days – sick leave accrues 1 day per month.

Educational Leave

PGY2 & 3 residents: Qualifying PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents may be granted leaves of absence of up to 5 days per year to attend educational meetings, take exams, or interview.  Approval needed by the Program Director.
PGY1 residents receive 1-3 days to attend meetings or conferences if presenting a poster or talk. Approval needed by Program Director and given on a case by case basis.
PGY1 residents are excused to take the USMLE.

PGY1, 2 & 3 residents: If you receive a poster or oral presentation at a conference, we will pay for travel, hotel, food, registration fees, and logistical expenses. Approval needed by the Program Director

Educational Funds

An annual stipend of $1,000 is available to PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents who meet didactic attendance requirements. The stipend may be used to purchase books, attend CME conferences, pay for in state license/exam fees, and medically related items such as stethoscopes.

PGY3: Funds are increased to $1,300.00 after the PGY3 resident takes the ABFM board exam.

During residency you will be provided with ALSO certification.

Society Memberships: Residents are also provided membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association

Maternity/Paternity Leave

Residents may also be granted family leave for the birth of a child or to care for a spouse or elderly parent. When on Family Medical Leave of Absence, all sick time and vacation time will be exhausted first, and then the resident will go on Leave Without Pay.

Meals

Meals/Meal Tickets are provided to residents at  Memorial Hermann Hospital, LBJ General Hospital, and Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital.

Parking

Parking at LBJ General Hospital, The Acres Home Health Center, and The Aldine Health Center is provided at no cost to residents. Parking in the Medical Center is available for a payroll deduction of approximately $50 per month. You will park at UTPB lot on Fannin, 5 minute walk to the hospital, medical school and residency office.
