Welcome to the UTHealth McGovern Medical School Family Medicine Residency Program! We hope this website provides you with some insights into our ACGME-accredited program. As a University-based FMR program in Houston (the fourth-most populous US city), we have the resources and experiences to train motivated residents to be qualified family medicine physicians to meet the challenges of today’s medical landscape. Our program’s diversity and continuity prepare our residents to work and thrive in multiple settings.
Our program allows residents to learn under world-class teachers and leaders at the Texas Medical Center and in a community-based county hospital. You will have the opportunity to work in both an underserved and private setting learning two types of EHR systems. Our highly skilled and dedicated faculty has years of experience in teaching and motivating our residents to be their best. We are heavily procedural oriented at all our three clinic sites. We focus on innovative teaching using various types of technology and foster leadership skills for our residents.
Using the ACGME milestone and PCMH models, we strive to prepare our residents for challenges and opportunities after residency. During your three years of training, we emphasize the continuity of care and management of acute, chronic and preventative medical issues. We also hope to put some fun and friendliness into our family medicine program.
Our city’s diverse patient population among our three ambulatory clinics provides FM residents with a wealth of learning both medically and culturally. We pride ourselves in producing resourceful and dedicated family medicine physicians who will provide high-quality comprehensive patient care with efficiency and compassion.
