Fourth-year Electives
The Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston offers several clinical electives that are open to fourth year students in domestic and foreign medical schools.
For medical students interested in NEUROSURGERY:
- Adult Neurosurgery (NSUR 4001)
- Advanced Patient Care Selective – Neurosurgery (APC 4070)
These elective rotations are generally designed for those who have decided to become a neurosurgeon and considers the elective time as preparation for a career in neurosurgery.
An elective rotation is necessary for students interested in applying to The University of Texas Medical School at Houston Neurosurgery Residency Program. We HIGHLY recommend enrolling in the APC 4070 in July.
For medical students interested in other subspecialties:
- Neurocritical Care (NSUR 4002)
This elective rotation is designed for those who have decided to pursue a career in various specialties, and have an interest in neurological conditions, including, but not limited to critical care, neurology, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology.
- Pediatric Neurosurgery (NSUR 4003)
This elective rotation is designed for those who have decided to pursue a career in various pediatric or surgical subspecialties, and have an interest in neurological conditions, including, but not limited to general surgery, neurosurgery, and pediatrics.
