Biography

Dr. Kevin Rix is an Assistant Professor on the Dallas Regional Campus in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science at the UTHealth-Houston School of Public Health. He holds a joint Assistant Professor position within the McGovern School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. His research interest focus on injury and violence prevention, implementation science of injury and violence prevention programming and injury epidemiology. Dr. Rix has a practiced based focus on research, as he spent seven years running an injury and violence prevention program at a level one trauma center in Austin, TX. During his time in the hospital he was the preceptor for many UTHealth students completing their practicum experience in injury prevention. Dr. Rix’s research focuses primarily on the relationship of space-time factors and injury risk across mechanisms of injury. Dr. Rix received his Bachelors in Public Health from Syracuse University, a Masters of Public Health in Social and Behavioral Science from Boston University and his PhD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in Behavioral Science with a Minor in Epidemiology and a Breadth in injury and violence. He completed his PhD work on the Austin Regional Campus. Prior to coming to UTHealth, he completed a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship with the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Injury Science Center. Dr. Rix spends a few days in Houston at the end of every month working with McGovern Faculty, Residents, Fellows, and Students on injury prevention related research projects.
