Coursework

To assure an educational foundation in research, preparation for American Board of Subspecialty requirements and supplement the individualized learning accomplished through the research project, the following didactic and on-line courses are offered over the three-year fellowship program:


Teaching Conferences

Pediatric Grand Rounds
Held from 8-9AM every Tuesday morning. Grand Rounds are a series of lectures, which present the symptoms, diagnosis, and management of a particular disease in the pediatric population.

Pediatric Fellowship Core Curriculum
Second Tuesday of every month 12-1PM; A didactic session or workshop is provided for the fellows in all Pediatric Subspecialty Training Programs to provide an educational forum to address common ACGME program requirements.

Division Conference
Every Friday 12-1PM; Neonatology faculty, fellows, and other UT or visiting faculty present completed or ongoing research, evidence-based literature reviews to guide the development of clinical consensus guidelines for the Division, ethical clinical discussions and forum for administrative updates.

Journal Club
Meets quarterly; Devoted to a journal club for basic and translational research. Standardized science literature appraisal criteria are used to review and appraise the evidence supporting the reviewed topics.

Evidence-based medicine
Meets monthly; Discussion includes the interpretation and application of clinical research to the practice of neonatal-perinatal medicine. Published medical literature appraisal criteria are used to review and appraise the evidence supporting the reviewed topics. The emphasis is on clinical trials and systematic reviews in Neonatology. Other discussion topics include studies of diagnostic tests, prognosis, practice guidelines, and economic evaluation.

Neonatology and Maternal Fetal Medicine
The curriculum covers topics on development of the fetus and neonate, pathophysiology of maternal and neonatal diseases, management of maternal-fetal and neonatal problems, and basic research techniques.

Lecture SITE Topic
Neonatology faculty, fellows and other UT/visiting faculty present completed or ongoing research, evidence-based literature reviews to guide the development of clinical consensus guideline for the Division.
