Our Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship offers one of the broadest and most immersive clinical training environments in the country, spanning five major clinical sites with an additional partnership at Texas Clinic Healthcare System. Fellows train across every level of addiction care, from inpatient detox to outpatient continuity clinics, emergency/medical consults, and community‑based opioid treatment services.

Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC)

Inpatient Dual Diagnosis & Crisis Stabilization

  • Largest academic psychiatric hospital in the region
  • High‑acuity inpatient psychiatry with a strong dual‑diagnosis focus
  • Detoxification and withdrawal management
  • Trauma‑informed care
  • Interdisciplinary team collaboration with physicians, nurses, social workers, and peer recovery specialists

Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center (DBSC)

PHP/IOP & Behavioral Therapies

  • State‑of‑the‑art Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
  • Medication‑Assisted Treatment (MAT) integrated throughout care
  • Opportunities to observe group therapy, psychoeducation, and family sessions
  • Collaboration with case managers and community agencies

UTHealth Houston Behavioral & Biomedical Sciences Building (BBSB)

 

Outpatient Continuity Clinic & Didactics Hub

  • Longitudinal outpatient care with a diverse patient population
  • Ongoing MAT management
  • Exposure to CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and other evidence‑based modalities
  • Weekly academic half‑day with didactics, case conferences, and supervision
  • Ability to follow patients over time and build therapeutic relationships

LBJ Hospital & Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center

Consult‑Liaison Psychiatry (Emergency, Medical, Surgical, ICU)

  • Psychiatric and addiction consultation across medical, surgical, and intensive care units
  • Management of withdrawal in medically complex patients
  • Collaboration with internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, neurology, trauma, and critical care
  • Training in opioid stewardship and safe prescribing practices
  • Experience with acute presentations and complex diagnostic challenges

Texas Clinic Healthcare System

Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) & Community Addiction Care

  • Methadone‑based community OTP
  • Daily medication dispensing workflows
  • Continued exposure to MAT in a real‑world community setting
  • Interdisciplinary treatment planning with counselors and program staff
  • Valuable insight into outpatient, long‑term recovery models and regulatory frameworks
