Biography

Captain Byron A Harrison, Sr is a simulation technician with the Mobile Simulation Training Unit through the Emergency Medicine department. Capt. Harrison comes to this role after retiring with 31 years of service with the Houston Fire Department as an EMS Supervisor for 15 years. Capt Harrison is a licensed paramedic since 1986 and has taught PreHospital care and Emergency Medical Services courses for over 25 years in the Houston/Southeast Texas area. He holds multiple degrees in Education and Emergency Health Sciences and is an active member of the National Association of EMS Educators and a retired member of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

Areas of Interest

Clinical Interests

Capt. Harrison’s clinical interests inclue prehospital care, and technology-driven education methods for EMS field personnel in continuing and intial education.

Research Interests

Interests include comparisons between in class and online/virtual education, focusing on retention and skills performance over time.

Developed the CareHouston program for Houston Fire Department, a program designed to reduce the number of repeat users of the 911 prehospital system by identifying these patients and actively meeting with these patient in a non emergent setting by the Houston Health Department to help supply support and access to healthcare resources other than the 911 system.
