Program Overview

The Department of Emergency Medicine sponsors an ACGME-approved Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship. The fellowship’s primary clinical site is the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and the major pediatric teaching hospital for McGovern Medical School. The PEM fellowship includes a total of four fellows with prior residency training in pediatrics or emergency medicine. The fellowship participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

Started in 2014, our program offers outstanding training in the clinical practice of pediatric emergency medicine, research, administration, and teaching. Fellows will be eligible to be credentialed in Emergency Ultrasound at the end of their fellowship. Our faculty are highly qualified and participate in teaching emergency medicine residents and pediatric residents, as well as pediatric emergency medicine fellows. The fellowship has a close, interactive relationship with the UTHealth Emergency Medicine residency program, providing fellows with excellent additional resources for acquiring related education and experience. Additional resources for the fellowship program include Memorial Hermann Hospital-Sugarland and the University of Texas Medical Branch Poison Control Center.
