We are thrilled to announce that one of our esteemed faculty members, Dr. Richard Witkov, MD, has been honored with the prestigious Challenge Coin award by the Executive Committee of Memorial Hermann – Southwest. This remarkable recognition highlights Dr. Witkov’ s exceptional dedication and expertise in the field of medicine.
The Challenge Coin is a symbol of honor and achievement, traditionally used to recognize extraordinary contributions and membership in distinguished organizations. Its origins trace back to the Roman Empire, where soldiers were rewarded with coins for their outstanding accomplishments. Today, Challenge Coins hold a special place in various institutions, including all branches of the military and even the US Congress, presented by US presidents to commemorate significant achievements.
Dr. Witkov’ s journey to receiving this esteemed award is a testament to his commitment to patient care. He was acknowledged for his exceptional work in a particularly challenging case involving the placement of a patient on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) in the operating room following complications. After the successful ECMO procedure, the patient was transferred to Texas Medical Center (TMC) and left the hospital fully intact.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Witkov on this prestigious honor. We are proud to have him as a valued member of our faculty, and we look forward to witnessing his continued contributions to the field of medicine!
