Keeping Cool: Dr. Hilary Fairbrother Featured in KPRC2 Heat Safety Segment

We are proud to share that EM’s Hilary Fairbrother, MD, MPH, was recently featured in a KPRC Channel 2 news story addressing the significant rise in temperatures across the Houston area.

In the segment, Dr. Fairbrother discussed how sudden heat spikes can pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and individuals with underlying medical conditions.

As part of her interview, Dr. Fairbrother emphasized the importance of early recognition and prevention of heat-related illnesses. She offered practical recommendations for staying safe during extreme heat, including:

  • staying hydrated
  • avoiding outdoor activity during peak hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • wearing lightweight clothing
  • taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
  • never leaving children or pets in parked vehicles
