Our department is excited to announce that applications are now open for the UTHealth Houston Space Medicine Fellowship. This is a pioneering, 2-year immersive program designed to prepare physicians for the evolving frontier of aerospace medicine.
From microgravity to mission simulations, this is where clinical excellence takes flight!
Fellows will gain hands-on experience in microgravity physiology, extravehicular activity (EVA) simulations, and aerospace operational environments.
The program includes direct collaboration with leading organizations such as NASA and SpaceX, providing exposure to real-world challenges in human spaceflight. Participants will also engage in research and development initiatives focused on spaceflight health risks, countermeasures, and medical system design for long-duration missions.
Rotations include orthopedic medicine, point-of-care ultrasound, and wilderness medicine, all tailored to the demands of austere and extraterrestrial environments.
In addition to clinical rotations, fellows will participate in high-fidelity simulation labs, including hyperbaric and diving medicine, altitude physiology, and flight-based scenarios. Seminars led by aerospace medicine experts, astronauts, and biomedical engineers will deepen understanding of space physiology, mission planning, and crew health systems.
