Our Emergency Medicine team continues to advance critical care with the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Since its early adoption, ECMO has become a vital lifesaving technology for patients with severe heart or lung failure, and our department has been at the forefront of this innovation.

Through dedicated training, collaboration across specialties, and ongoing commitment to excellence, we have built a program capable of handling the most challenging cases.
ECMO Team in Action
Intro to Prehospital ECMO
One notable example: during the Chevron Houston Marathon, a patient collapsed near the finish line and required rapid ECMO assessment by our mobile team.
While the patient ultimately stabilized before cannulation was needed, the coordinated response underscored our team’s preparedness and ability to deploy this life-saving intervention within minutes.

As we enter high-risk respiratory and cardiac seasons, our team remains vigilant. From resident education to real-world execution, we work to ensure that every patient receives the most advanced care possible.
Preparedness, teamwork, and cutting-edge technology continue to define our approach to critical care.
