The International Space Medicine Summit convened international leaders in human health, spaceflight research, and operational medicine to share innovative findings and advance solutions for the medical challenges of exploration beyond Earth.
Presentations spanned gravitational physiology, mission medical systems, and strategies to optimize human performance in extreme environments.

UTHealth Houston was well-represented throughout the summit. Dr. Kris Lehnhardt, MD, Section Director of the Space Medicine Program, served as one of the event hosts and emphasized the event’s interdisciplinary focus, noting that the 2025 summit highlighted:
“a much more robust commercial spaceflight presence and a greater focus on the interdisciplinary nature of space medicine and human health and performance.”
His insights underscored the importance of integrating clinical expertise, engineering, and mission planning to prepare clinicians for the realities of space exploration.
Summit discussions also highlighted how space health research has far-reaching implications for Earth-based care – from remote patient monitoring to strategies for physiological resilience in clinical practice.

Through immersive education, simulation integration, and partnerships with NASA and commercial aerospace leaders, the program prepares clinicians to address the unique medical challenges of space and extreme environments.
