A recent piece by Elizabeth Yuko of Rolling Stone included an interview with Keisha Ray, PhD, about incentives offered to those getting COVID-19 vaccines. The article discusses recent state incentives, including Ohio Governor Mike DeWine launching a $1 million lottery—”Ohio-Vax-a-Million”—for vaccinated residents. In Ohio, students aged 12 to 17 who get vaccinated also will be eligible to receive one of five full college scholarships. Retail chains are offering incentives as well, such as free doughnuts, beer, amusement park tickets, and more. Ray explains such incentive programs are best for those who are undecided about getting the vaccine, but cautions that the programs may not reach their intended targets.
