A Study of Home-Based Brain Stimulation for Behavioral and Cognitive Symptoms in Huntington’s Disease

| The Study | This study looks at whether home-based transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is safe, feasible, and helpful for improving behavioral and cognitive symptoms in people with Huntington’s disease (HD). tDCS is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that uses a very low electrical current applied to the scalp to gently stimulate specific brain areas involved in mood, behavior, and thinking. All participants receive active tDCS at home, supervised remotely by the research team. |
| Who can participate? | • Adults 18–80 years old • Diagnosed with early to middle-stage Huntington’s disease • On stable medications • Have a caregiver who can help during sessions |
| What is required? | Participants will complete home-based tDCS sessions for 30 minutes per session, five days per week, for four weeks. The sessions are done at home using a study-provided device. A caregiver will help with setting up the device. All sessions are remotely supervised by trained research staff to ensure proper use and safety. Participants will complete study assessments at baseline, during treatment (week 2 and week 4), and about four weeks after finishing the treatment. Some participants may be eligible for an optional sub-study that includes MRI scans and comparison between active and sham stimulation. |
