Biography

Dr. Luis Torres moved to New York City from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, after completing his medical degree at Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. After working at Columbia University Medical Center in New York as a research assistant, he proceeded to complete his intern year at Jacobi Medical Center/AECOM, where he was awarded the Preliminary Intern of the Year award, as well as, the prestigious Leo M. Davidoff Society of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University Award.

Dr. Torres then moved to Miami, where he completed an adult neurology residency and a vascular neurology fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System. During his time there, he was chief resident and awarded resident of the year, fellow of the year and received the distinguished Resident Award for Excellence in Teaching Medical Students awarded by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

After this, he moved to Houston, and completed a Neurocritical Care fellowship at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Currently, Dr. Torres serves as an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship Programin both the Department of Neurology and the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery. He also leads the NeuroICU Board Review for the fellowship program. Dr. Torres is active with the American Academy of Neurology, serving on several committees. He is board certified in Neurology and Neurocritical Care by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as board certified in Neurocritical Care by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties.
