Revolutionizing therapy for babies with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH)

Dr. Anthony Johnson, the Fetal Center’s co-Director and maternal-fetal specialist, has performed numerous Fetoscopic Endoluminal Tracheal Occlusion (FETO) procedures in fetuses with left Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). Dr. Johnson is a co-Investigator in a multi-center randomized control trial performing FETO procedures for moderate and severe CDH, in addition to executing his own FDA approved prospective pilot trial for the procedure in severe cases. The primary objective of the latter study is to determine the usability and safety of performing the Fetoscopic Endoluminal Tracheal Occlusion (FETO) procedure in fetuses with left Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). The secondary objectives are to indicate fetal lung growth in pregnancy after FETO and to establish the survival rate and outcomes for these patients. The Fetal Center is currently enrolling pregnant women between 18-45 years old that are having a baby with a severe left sided diaphragmatic hernia with a confirmed diagnosis of Congenital Diaphragm Hernia (CDH).
