Sample Rotation Schedule

- Elective rotation is available to senior residents with any GME-affiliated program within McGovern Medical School. Previous elective rotations include (but are not limited to) musculoskeletal radiology, acute pain management service (APMS), hyperbaric medicine and wound care, interventional spasticity management, acting attending position at community rehabilitation hospitals, or protected research time.
- Outpatient selective rotations are outpatient rotations available with our department (TIRR Outpatient clinic, TIRR Interventional Procedure clinic, ROH Spine and MSK Clinic, UT Physicians Sports Medicine Clinic, among others)

PGY-1
- Our PGY-1 internship is a special collaboration with UTHealth Houston’s Internal Medicine residency program. There is excellent exposure to general medicine wards (4 months) and critical care medicine (1 month) at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center (external link) or Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (external link) (Harris Health). The remainder of time in internship is spent in physiatry-relevant subspecialty experiences, such as neurology, cardiology, rheumatology, palliative care, infectious disease, geriatrics, anesthesia pain management services (APMS), and ambulatory medicine subspecialty clinics.

- Specialized neurorehabilitation

- About 6 months inpatient and 3 months outpatient at TIRR Memorial Hermann (external link)
- TIRR Memorial Hermann is a large, free-standing, inpatient rehabilitation with dedicated service lines:
- Spinal cord injury
- Brain Injury & Stroke
- Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, including Limb Loss, Burn & Polytrauma, Complex Medical Courses, and other neurologic disorders
- TIRR has participated in Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems (external link) and Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems (external link) for over 30 years
- 1:1 Faculty teaching with excellent procedural exposure in spasticity management (including botulinum toxin and phenol injections, intrathecal baclofen pump trials and management) and other ultrasound-guided procedures

- 16 bed, In-hospital rehabilitation unit, following traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, organ transplantation, and complex medical courses including LVAD services

- Training in ultrasound-guided joint/MSK injections, fluoroscopic-guided spinal injections, and other pain management procedures including spinal cord stimulators, peripheral nerve stimulators, and other diagnostic and procedural injections
