Biography

Eduardo Matta MD, CMQ is originally from Puerto Rico. He has a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and physics from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a Medical Degree from Tulane’s School of Medicine. He completed his Radiology Residency at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation and his fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Matta is currently an Associate Professor of Radiology and Oncology with a passion for radiology education and quality improvement. He is also Director of the Abdominal Section and Vice Chair of Quality in Radiology. His expertise lies in cross-sectional diagnostic imaging of adult patients (ultrasound, CT, and MRI), but he is also active in radiography and fluoroscopy. Clinical interests include general, vascular, and obstetric ultrasound, as well as development of clinical applications for 3D/4D ultrasound, cardiac imaging (including CT coronary angiography and cardiac MRI), dynamic and diffusion MRI for oncologic applications, and obstetric MRI for maternal and fetal indications. He has been recognized for his teaching with Teacher of the Year (2013, 2010) and Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards (2013, 2012, 2009), among others.

  1. Headed ACR Accreditation, passed every year for three facilities (MH-TMC, MH-OPID Medical Plaza and LBJ-GH) – 2008-present
  2. Headed tumor volume calculation service in conjunction with interventional radiology and nuclear medicine (MH-TMC) – 2009 to 2017
  3. Collaborated with radiology colleagues and liver transplant surgeons in implementation of Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) – MHHS and LBJ-GH – 2011
  4. Organized and proctored Oncologic Boards for abdominal imaging – 2014-2022
  5. Developed System-wide (MHHS and LBJ-GH) templates for uniform reporting with yearly updates, most recently including COVID-19 and expanded vascular templates – 2015-2022
  6. Spearheaded implementation of Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) for all thyroid studies (MHHS and LBJ-GH) – 2017
  7. Collaborated with Drs. Kumaravel and Horwitz to expand our abdominal service to MMD clinics and OPIDs. 2019-2022
  8. Collaborated with Dr. Surabhi in reworking the abdominal imaging schedule to allow for safe, remote coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2019-2020
  9. Redesign of MH abdominal imaging rotations to accommodate increased outpatient demand – 2021-2022
  10. Collaborating with Dr. Macedo to expand our vascular imaging service – 2020-2022
  11. Working with Dr. Spence on EPIC-2024 implementation
