After 30 years of outstanding service, we are honored to announce that Dr. Christine Koerner will be transitioning into a new role as our department’s Ambassador of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. In this new role, Dr. Koerner will continue her clinical and academic duties, but will also focus on her passion of pediatric community engagement and outreach.

Dr. Koerner joined the ranks of our medical school faculty in 1990 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics under the Division of Community and General Pediatrics. In 1998, Dr. Koerner moved into the Department of Emergency Medicine as one our first board certified Pediatric Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Koerner has served in numerous leadership positions including Medical Director for both Pediatric Emergency Centers at LBJ and Children’s Memorial Hermann. Additionally, she’s been our PEM Section Chief since its inception in 2003.

In addition to her service to our department, Dr. Koerner has been a respected member of the Medical School serving on numerous committees. Dr. Koerner was recognized as an esteemed clinician educator and directed the school’s Transitional Year Residency program for many years. Dr. Koerner continues her dedication to the Medical School by serving as a McGovern Society Leader.

Along with her academic and clinical commitments, Dr. Koerner focuses on community service, outreach, and advocacy. She has served on and chaired many committees at both the local and state level for the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Pediatric Society, and Texas Medical Association. As a consummate teacher, role model, and medical professional, Dr. Koerner was recognized in 2015 by the TMA with the Silver Award for Excellence in Academic Medicine.
