UTHealth Houston was represented at the 92nd annual Aerospace Medical Association’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Reno, Nevada which occurred May 22 – May 27 of this year. The conference is a meeting of the minds for over 1400 international experts from all aspects of the aerospace community. At the meeting, ideas are generated and consensus is formed for the bright future of medicine and space.
Samuel Beger, MD, MPH (PGY-1) had several research projects that were presented at the meeting. While working at SpaceX, he co-authored several manuscripts including this study published in the Journal of Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance which detailed how SpaceX and NASA partnership on the Crew Demo-2 mission to successfully keep COVID-19 out of the international space station. Additionally, several panels discussed this study, (also aided by UT Houston PGY III Nicolas Heft, MD) recently published in the journal Nature Communications, regarding how commercial space companies can contribute to the scientific community during a pandemic.
