Biography

Dr. Ezenwa Onyema is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and the Joan & Stanford Alexander Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at UTHealth McGovern Medical School. He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine before completing his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then pursued a fellowship in geriatric medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

A dedicated advocate for the Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative, Dr. Onyema promotes goal-concordant care for older adults through interprofessional collaboration and system-wide implementation of best practices. He has a strong interest in interprofessional education and actively teaches medical students, residents, and nurses at Memorial Hermann-TMC.

Dr. Onyema is also involved in Code Lilac, a program that fosters interdisciplinary peer-to-peer emotional support during challenging clinical events.

He lives in Richmond, TX, with his wife and three children, and in his free time, he enjoys playing soccer.
