The Department of Emergency Medicine recently hosted another successful session in the Save a Life Series, this time focused on Narcan administration—a critical skill in emergency response and opioid overdose intervention.
Led by Drs. Gowri Stevens & Sunny Elagandhala, the event provided participants with hands-on training and practical guidance on identifying and responding to opioid overdoses. Attendees also learned key steps in safely administering naloxone (Narcan), a medication that rapidly reverses the effects of opioids.
We are especially grateful to our student leaders from the Student Society of Emergency Medicine (SSEM) at McGovern Medical School for their continued support and junior leadership. SSEM has been instrumental in helping organize and execute these events, which aim to equip the community with essential, real-world emergency care skills.
In addition to the training, participants enjoyed a delicious lunch from Chick-fil-A and left with greater confidence in their ability to respond in emergency situations.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success, and to all the students, faculty, and guests who showed up ready to learn and engage—it was a great day of training and teamwork!
