EM Mobile SIM Unit Highlights Recent Community Engagement & Educational Initiatives
Over the past several months, the Mobile Simulation Training Unit (MSTU) has been actively engaged across the Greater Houston region, supporting education, outreach, and professional development initiatives.
The MSTU serves as the department’s fully mobile, high‑fidelity simulation platform – a complete and functioning replica of the ambulances operating on Houston streets today. This out‑of‑hospital training environment allows learners to experience realistic prehospital scenarios, practice advanced procedures, and receive immediate performance feedback through an integrated audiovisual system.
The unit supports EMS professionals, medical and nursing students, residents, and hospital‑based teams by providing immersive, customizable simulation encounters designed to strengthen clinical readiness and patient‑safety practices.
In recent months, our team provided hands‑on training for students in Spring Branch ISD (external link) and delivered CPR and rapid life‑saving skills sessions for local seniors. The MSTU also supported the Fort Bend County EMS Symposium, collaborating with EMS professionals and strengthening partnerships with agencies in Cy‑Fair, Colorado County, Sugar Land, and additional regional institutions.
Beyond these events, the MSTU continues to play a key role in continuing education programs, community outreach efforts, and simulation‑based competitions. The unit has previously been utilized for intern prehospital skills training, offering new EM residents exposure to immersive scenarios and applied skill stations during orientation.
