UTH-EM Partners with Sugar Land EMS for Mobile ECMO Training

Sugar Land EMS Header collageOur Mobile ECMO team recently joined Sugar Land EMS (external link) for a hands-on training session focused on advanced prehospital critical care.

The afternoon brought emergency physicians, EMS professionals, and clinical educators together to practice the teamwork + coordination needed to care for ECMO-supported patients outside the hospital.

This session offered participants an opportunity to work through the logistics and clinical considerations involved in bringing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation capabilities into the prehospital environment.

From communication and role clarity to transport coordination and resuscitation workflow, the training highlighted just how many moving pieces must come together when providing high-level critical care outside the hospital.

Beyond the technical training, the event also emphasized the value of collaboration between hospital-based EM teams and EMS partners.

These joint exercises help strengthen relationships, improve familiarity across teams, and create a shared approach to managing complex, time-sensitive patients.
