Elective |
STICU (Shock Trauma) | (1 month) | The EM 2 resident gains extensive experience managing critically ill trauma patients while working with Surgery Critical Care fellows and attendings. |
Pediatric ED (TCH) | (1 month) | The resident participates as an EM 2 in the largest children’s hospital in the world with one of the busiest Pediatric EDs in the country with 85,000 patient visits per year. Direct supervision is by Pediatric EM faculty and fellows. |
Elective Month | (1 month) | We have an extensive “menu” of options to choose from, but also routinely create new experiences that are tailored to the individual goals of the resident. |
Trauma Service | (2 weeks) | Spent on the trauma service taking night calls with the team on weekends responding to Level 1 trauma activations as well as Level 2 consults.
Additional experience is gained leading resuscitations, performing procedures and following trauma cases from ED through hospital admission. |
PICU (Pediatric ICU) | (1 month) | The EM2 resident works alongside the PICU faculty and fellows, gaining experience with critically ill children of all ages with a diverse pathology. |
MHH ED | (3.5 months) | 3.5 months |
LBJ ED | (3 months) | 3 months |
MHH SW | (1 month) | A one month community rotation spent at a high acuity location with a plethora of procedures and an advancement in autonomy. |
Four and a half ED months are spent at MHH and three months at LBJ General Hospital which involve progressive responsibility, resuscitation management, and an introduction to the supervision of medical students.
