Samuel J. Prater, MD, CMQ

Biography

Dr. Prater completed his undergraduate education in 2003 at The University of Texas at San Antonio. He graduated summa cum laude and completed an honors thesis on the importance of routinely screening all women for intimate partner violence.  His medical education was completed in 2007 through Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He then went on to complete his Emergency Medicine residency through McGovern Medical School where he served as a chief resident and completed a research project highlighting the diagnostic futility of acute phase reactants in the work up of the febrile infant.

Dr Prater completed a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 2012.  His fellowship training was spent at Texas Children’s Hospital, the largest pediatric ED in the country.  While there, he spent additional time completing a research project evaluating a pre-hospital protocol for fluid resuscitation of pediatric and adult trauma patients.

Dr. Prater aspires to help create an ED where children receive high quality, efficient care as compared to national standards.  Dr. Prater is most passionate about training future Emergency Medicine physicians to care for acutely ill and injured children.
