Medical Education Fellowship

Overview

Academic medical centers are assuming the responsibility to provide care for large numbers of individuals while training the next generation of clinicians.

Clinician educators are expected to be excellent teachers, develop and disseminate novel curricula, possess strong clinical skills, mentor junior learners, produce original research and administer educational programs while demonstrating leadership and ethical behavior.

Most new residency graduates do not have formal education in these skills/competencies and faculty-development programs are essential to support the development of successful academic educators.

The best way for new faculty to ensure a long and successful career in academic emergency medicine is to obtain post-graduate training. The Medical Education Fellowship is a one or two-year program designed to prepare emergency medicine (EM) residency-trained graduates for careers as superb clinical educators, scholars, and leaders in EM-focused medical education.

This fellowship is designed for new residency graduates or junior faculty seeking personalized mentorship and time to build skills in medical education teaching, scholarship, leadership, and curricular development.

The fellowship provides dedicated time to develop academic projects, foster collaborations and hone a specific area of expertise within medical education. The two-year fellowship is offered with support for a Masters of Education at the program of the applicant’s choice.
