Why UTHealth Houston?

Getting Started

At UTHealth Houston, our Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship offers a training experience that is both rigorous and diverse.

Fellows benefit from practicing across a wide range of clinical environments, from the nation’s busiest academic medical center to high-acuity community hospitals.

Our primary training site, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), is home to one of the nation’s leading pediatric emergency departments and a nationally recognized Level I trauma center. Here, fellows manage complex, high-volume cases and work alongside leaders in emergency medicine, pediatrics, and trauma care.

In addition, fellows rotate through Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (LBJ), where they gain invaluable experience serving Houston’s underserved and diverse patient populations. This site strengthens skills in resourceful, community-driven care while reinforcing the fellowship’s mission to provide equitable, compassionate medicine.

Together, these rotations, along with experiences at Memorial Hermann–Katy and other community sites, prepare fellows to thrive in any practice environment, whether academic, urban, or community-based.

We welcome applications from both pediatrics and emergency medicine residencies, reviewing each candidate holistically. Selection is made without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, religion, nationality, disability, or veteran status.
