Civil rights activist Eldrewey Stearnes passed away on December 23 at the age of 89. Stearnes was known for leading sit-ins and demonstrations to desegregate Houston. A recent piece in the Houston Chronicle about Stearnes includes comments from Thomas Cole, PhD. Cole first met Stearnes in the 1980s and later wrote a book about him. The biography, No Color Is My Kind: The Life of Eldrewey Stearnes and the Integration of Houston was published in 1997 by the University of Texas Press. The book is currently being updated and will be reprinted in 2021.
