Thomas Cole, PhD, recently presented a talk on No Color Is My Kind, a book he authored about the life of the late Eldrewey Stearns and Houston’s desegregation movement. Hosted by the Bullock Texas State History Museum, Cole’s talk shared how this important piece of civil rights history was nearly lost because of Stearns’s mental health. The pair first met while Stearns was hospitalized in Galveston for bipolar affective disorder. An updated edition of No Color Is My Kind: The Life of Eldrewey Sterns and the Desegregation of Houston was published in 2021.
