Healthcare Policy for Health Professionals (HP2), UTHealth Houston’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), was shared at the 2023 TEACH-S Educational Symposium. The symposium was held on Wednesday, June 14 at the Tilman J. Fertitta College of Medicine at the University of Houston.

HP2 co-directors, Angela Gomez, EdD, MBA, MS, and Sandy McKay, MD, gave an oral presentation, offering an overview of the core initiatives of the five-year QEP. Shane Cunha, PhD, presented a poster about the Virtual Interprofessional Policy Simulation (VIPS) on behalf of co-authors Gomez, Jessica Wise, MPH; Tiffany Champagne-Langabeer, PhD, MBA; and Rachel Jantea, MD, MS. Finally, Gomez presented a poster about the Civics 101 module on behalf of Wise (lead author), Cunha, and McKay.

The VIPS is an interprofessional activity offered in collaboration with the Center for Interprofessional Collaboration under the direction of Jantea that engages students in policy-making, and the Civics 101 module helps students develop foundational knowledge about how policies are made and changed in the US. HP2 also includes three other activities: Health Policy Forums, Curricular Enhancements, and a forthcoming Advocacy Module.
