Goals:
The mission of our Breast Imaging Fellowship Program is to provide our fellows with complete and high- quality training for the interpretation of breast imaging studies and execution of image-guided procedures while modeling compassionate, patient-centered care. The goal is for our fellows to develop the skill set necessary to reduce breast cancer mortality and succeed in the field of Breast Imaging.

Objectives:

The objective of our Breast Imaging Fellowship is to educate our fellows in clinical and imaging evaluation of the breast, breast anatomy, pathology, breast cancer epidemiology and treatment, and mammography federal regulation. The main educational objectives are based on recommendations from the Society of Breast Imaging and American College of Radiology and the ACR/Society of Breast Imaging Fellowship training curriculum.

These objectives will be accomplished through daily responsibilities such as:

  • Interpretation of screening and diagnostic mammography cases
  • Interpretation of screening and diagnostic ultrasound cases
  • Interpretation and protocoling of breast MRI cases
  • Execution of image-guided procedures

All performed under strict faculty supervision and with varying degrees of guidance based of the fellow’s gained skill, with the objective of gaining confidence to practice independently as a graduate.

  • It is expected for the fellow to be involved in patient, technician, resident, and clinician communication during their rotation in the service.
  •  The fellow must be involved in pre-procedural planning (approach, views needed, consent, etc.) and post biopsy recommendation/results correlation and communication with referring physicians and patients, as necessary.
  • The fellow will participate in weekly Tumor Board Multidisciplinary conference, M&M conferences, Journal Club, and/or other academic activities, including preparation and presentation of cases under faculty guidance.
  • It is expected for the fellow to participate in academic and research activities during the year with the goal of presentation in national meetings and potential publication.
  • The fellow will share call responsibilities with faculty, which includes weekly Breast ER call.

Application Requirements:

Before entering into the fellowship program, radiology residents must be American Board of Radiology Certification Eligible, and must have graduated from a medical school in a state or jurisdiction of the United States which is accredited at the date of graduation by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), a Canadian Medical School accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), or from a United States osteopathic school accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Graduates of medical schools located outside the jurisdiction of the United States and Canada must possess a currently valid standard certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or have completed a Fifth Pathway program in an accredited school of medicine in the United States. Additional documentation may be requested as necessary.
