Miles Trekked for Miracles – Emergency Medicine Members Participate in TexasMedRun

On Friday, Feb 5, 2022 members of the Department of Emergency Medicine braved the frigid temperatures to run in the 19th Annual Harris County Hospital District Foundation TexasMedRun 5K and 10K Race. Proceeds from the event were used to expand the Harris Health System Food Pharmacy Program, including the prescription of fresh fruit/vegetable purchases at Strawberry Health Center, Acres Health Center, and LBJ Hospital Campus, to other Harris Health facilities. Dr. Hashim Zaidi, medical director for Harris Health EMS, and his volunteers from the LBJ Critical Care Transport team also staffed the event to assist with any medical emergencies. Runners from the department of emergency medicine include Dr. Salil Bhandari, Dr. Hashim Zaidi, Dr. David Lewandowski, and Dr. Hilary Fairbrother. Over $17,000 was raised for the Harris Health Food Pharmacy Program.
