As temperatures fluctuate, cold weather, and the pursuit to stay warm bring concerns of potential carbon monoxide poisoning. Colorless and odorless carbon monoxide starves the brain of oxygen, leading to brain damage and even death. Dozens of Houston-area residents went to the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning during the deadly winter storm last February. Dr. Samuel Prater, Medical Director of Memorial Hermann TMC Emergency Department spoke with KHOU Channel 11 about carbon monoxide poisoning dangers associated with staying warm and tips to avoid these dangers during cold weather.
