Today, we pause to honor and thank the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the United States Armed Forces. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting our freedoms deserve our deepest gratitude.

Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day, first observed on November 11, 1919, to commemorate the end of World War I. In 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day to honor American veterans of all wars. Each year on this day, we come together as a nation to recognize the service and sacrifice of all who have worn the uniform.
Within our department, we are proud to recognize several colleagues who have served or continue to serve:
Whether in times of peace or conflict, veterans have stood steadfast in their commitment to our nation.

Today, and every day, we express our sincere appreciation for their service and sacrifice. To our colleagues and their families who have served – thank you.
